The Jewish Museum of Maryland on Tour

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is proud to announce the opening of the exhibition, "The Other Promised Land: Vacationing, Identity, and the Jewish American Dream" which explores the history of destinations such as Atlantic City, Miami Beach, the Catskills, and Israel. Complete with vintage bathing suits, honeymoon outfits, Boardwalk items, photographs, and home movies, the exhibition recreates these legendary locations in their heyday. The exhibition will open in Chicago at the Spertus Institute from February 5-June 4, 2006. The exhibition will subsequently be on display at the Jewish Museum of Maryland from Summer-Fall 2006, followed by other venues nationally in 2007. The exhibition catalog is currently for sale in the Jewish Museum of Maryland's gift shop 410-732-6400, perfect reading for those winter days!

(A number of Catskills Institute people -- Phil Brown, Jenna Weissman Joselit, and Deborah Dash Moore -- worked a lot on this exhibit and its wonderful catalog, and JMM curator Melissa Martens gave a great talk on the exhibit at the 11th Annual History of the Catskills Conference, so we really hope you go enjoy it)
