The Sol Singer Collection of Philatelic Judaica is an extraordinary collection, built over more than forty years by retired Atlanta businessman Sol Singer. It includes every stamp issued by the state of Israel as well as supporting material and stamps featuring Jewish themes issued all over the world. Sol and Ruth Singer donated this remarkable collection to Emory's Special Collections in April 2002. The collection is composed of three parts. The first part is a complete set of stamps of the State of Israel from the period just before independence up to 2002. The uniqueness of this collection is due not only to its completeness, but also to the fact that it contains corners, first day covers, and even sheets for each of the stamps issued. The early sets are very rare and valuable. The second part of the collection contains stamps of Jewish content issued by countries around the world. No one knows how many such stamps exist, but the Singer collection contains several volumes of stamps on such subjects as famous Jews, Jewish holidays, topics from scripture, and the Holocaust. The third part is a nearly complete set of stamps created by the Jewish National Fund to help raise money to purchase land in Palestine and to develop the land once the State of Israel had been established. The fourth part of the collection consists of whole sets of philatelic journals describing Israeli and Judaica stamps. The Homepage of this Web site is located at http://specialcollections.library.emory.edu/exhibits/stamps/default.html There are a few other websites featuring philatelic judaica available on the web. A selective list is provided. For more information about the Sol Singer Collection, please contact Special Collections at 404-727-6887 or speccollref@emory.edu.
