Weekly Megillah Stories
John Bolton ought not be appointed as our country's ambassador to the United Nations because of his work in helping to overturn the United Nations resolution equating Zionism with racism. In fact, his appointment ought to be denied because of his involvement in twisting intelligence to satisfy a political and military goal of the Bush administration -- the unjustified invasion of a sovereign nation, Iraq. Our country is supposed to be better than that, and as a result, our respect in the community of nations has plummeted, in part, because of his shameful actions as nothing more than a political hatchet man. This Jew does not look on him as a hero nor as a person of minimally acceptable character, since he is responsible, in part, for the killing and maiming on tens of thousands of American military personnel. The affront to Jewry and to the truth would be to have this person represent our country in any capacity. Another point, if I may. What service is performed by the inclusion of that article about the patient who threw a cup of tea at his doctor? Is it merely that the 'event' occurred in Israel? If so, you'd better do a bit more thinking about inclusions in this newsletter if you want to maintain credibility in the Jewish community -- or any community, for that matter. As for the Texas evangelist and his quest to 'help' Israel, perhaps readers ought to be made aware that it the goal of these evangelists to support Israel until all the Jews in the world are gathered together there, and it will then be their choice whether to convert to Christianity or be annihilated. With so much happening in the world that is of importance to Jews and to Israel, the sole criteria for inclusion in this newsletter ought not be simply stories relating to Jews and/or to Israel. Editor-> Dear Alan, Thank you for your well thought-out comments concerning the Weekly Gantseh Megillah. I happen to agree entirely with your assessment of the Bolton situation. I find him to be a total affront to everything I believe in as well as much that Judaism holds sacred. Please understand that I do not agree with every story or comment I publish. The Weekly Megillah is simply headlines and links to stories from other sources that I feel are of interest to our community. The only place in which I voice my personal opinion is within the Editor's Comments of the monthly edition of the Megillah. I also happen to agree with your comment about the tea throwing. I only included it because when I read the brief blurb it caused me to chuckle and I thought some people might share that reaction with me. NOT everything in the Megillah is serious and heavy, or necessarily of great import. But in all honesty, after I published this week's edition, I had second thoughts about that particular story, but it was too late to do anything about it. Try to understand Alan, that I read over 200 articles every week when deciding what stories to link to. That is a hell of a lot of reading, and considering this is all done in what might laughingly be called my spare time, I may occasionally slip up in my judgment. All in all though, I really do try to include stories that are varied in interests, import and topic. Thanks again for taking the time to write. I am always delighted to hear from members of my Megillah family. All my best and warmest wishes,
