     October Editorial
You definitely have nailed it, expressing your convictions clearly, but in such a reasonable, thoughtful way that all but the most strident, narrow-minded jerks surely will consider your points seriously. I like the way you stress your commitment to nourishing the Jewish community, and that one aspect of that is to recognize fallacies in blind support for all official programs no matter what. And you end on just the right note, stressing how the arguments of Joe and the AIPAC actually are threats to democracy. Hopefully most of your readers will take it to the next logical step - that such extremist policies probably threaten the very existence of Israel. I try to respect feelings of Jewish people who have suffered so much, and whose new State was surrounded with such violent and hate-filled neighbors. So when Ben Gurion, Golda Meir, and Moshe Dayan lashed out and drove the rascals back, it was easy to cheer and be glad. But how far does that mindset go? Even if such violence was appropriate then, what about today? I remember hearing many programs both locally and nationally after Sharon made his highly publicized visit to the hands off area of Jerusalem. Our local public radio station did a call-in show with Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman, a highly respected leader of a Reform congregation in Minneapolis. Most of her remarks struck me as right on. But then a caller who sounded intelligent to me strongly questioned Sharon's actions and statements and asked if that did not actually increase the dangers facing Israel. Zimmerman's reaction was to accuse him of criticizing Zionism, then added, "And we have found that if you probe into criticisms of Zionism, you usually find actual Anti-Semitism..." I was absolutely shocked and felt like I was about to veer off the road. I hope you will consider running an article about the re-inviting of Tutu in the next weekly Megillah. Talk about supporting the points in your editorial! And a major thrust into that change of heart came from thoughtful Jews. To your good work, my friend................ Steve
