Water Boarding
I have to express my opinion on water-boarding. We live in a time where it is necessary to prevent atrocities at any cost. You might bring up the argument that it is inhumane, well it is inhumane to cut peoples head off, target innocent individuals with rockets, rape and abuse innocent individuals. If water boarding can save a life then so be it. Noel Eliscu-Boscobel Wisconsin
Editor-> Dear Noel,Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts on water boarding. I understand your point of view and respect the sincerity of your beliefs. However, I do not believe that statements made under the duress of torture can be depended upon for their accuracy. Most people I have heard or read, who have experience with these techniques agree that a subject being exposed to these interrogation techniques will ultimately say whatever it is the interrogator wants to hear, without any concern for the truth. We have far more of a chance of getting truthful information using other more humane methods that do not include torture. I also do not believe we can lower ourselves to the standards against which we send our soldiers in to fight against. One of the reasons President Bush gave for invading Iraq was because of the way Saddam tortured his adversaries. If we are willing to go to war to stop torture, how can we then, in good conscience, engage in the same activities and expect the world, including our allies, to ever trust in our claims of morality? All of that aside however, I sincerely do respect your comments and thoughts and I am honoured that you took the time to express them to me. I am very grateful to have you as a member of my Megillah family. Best wishes,
