Shmuck of the Month
Dear Editors, I think you gave up too soon on Shmuck of The Month, and should have been more inclusive in your picks. After all, perhaps it was unfair to target only Jews, when there are plenty of people out there of other religious faiths who would qualify as shmucks. I, too, enjoyed your shmuck feature, however politically partisan, and believe you two are being too hard on yourselves. Actually, choosing yourselves was very funny. Here are a few shumuck candidates you should have considered: George W. Bush (you must have been very tempted), Chris Matthews, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd (and any other Republicans or Democrats who defended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac), Tim Geithner, and former AIG exec Joseph Cassano. And Bernie Maddof (Oi, a shkandal!). You're right, his stunning criminality probably merits, or demerits, a category of its own. Sooner of later, I predict, even President Obama should make the shmuck list for vowing to reform Washington, then picking a bunch of D.C. insiders for his cabinet -- all of whom had tax problems. I'm sure the president will have plenty more opportunities to make the cut. Well anyway, thanks for the memories, though I am holding out hope you shmucks will change your minds about deep-sixing the feature. Keith Phucas Boothwyn, Pa.
Editor-> Discontinuing this feature was a difficult decision to make. Our main reason for doing so was to prevent the Megillah from becoming a source of negativity, even if done with tongue planted firmly in cheek. I thank you for your suggested nominees, and should we ressurrect this feature, you can be sure we will take them into consideration. Michael
