SHMUCK OF THE MONTH

MICHAEL MUKASEY

Attorney General of the United States of America

Attorney General Michael Mukasey looks like a soft-spoken, intelligent and sincere Yiddishe mentsh. Two other Yiddishe mentshen, Senators Chuck Schumer and Diane Feinstein, although on the other side of the aisle, vouched for his credentials as a warm, caring, bipartisan gentleman. They urged their Democratic colleagues in the Senate to vote for his confirmation; and most of them did.

Unfortunately, now that Mr. Mukasey is Attorney General, his claim to mentsh-hood has been horribly tarnished. He is a man who cannot declare “water boarding,” a procedure decried by the United States when the Japanese used it during WW II, as an act of torture.

Water boarding is listed as an illegal act of torture under international law, and this video shows how the Attorney General tries to tip toe around the issue while being questioned in Congress. His testimony, and lack of personal conviction, has caused him to be named the Gantseh Megillah’s Shmuck of the Month.
