The Confessions of an Archbishop

A member of our Megillah family, Lou Fine, brought to my attention the actions taken by Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, on November, 7, 1999. At that time, the Archbishop brought to the attention of the congregation at the synagogue in the Fox Point section of Milwaukee, at which Lou's father was an active member, the unfairness with which the Catholic church had treated Jews over the centuries, and how their libelous declarations helped lead to the Holocaust.

I urge all of you to visit this link in order to read the complete text of the Archbishops statements and intentions.  It is, indeed, an inspirational read.

Lou had the opportunity about a year ago, to meet with Archbishop Weakland. In their 90 minute talk Lou found him to be a modest, frank, sincere and gutsy man, to the point of having chutzpah.  The Archbishop is also the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Juilliard as a concert pianist.

Lou's dad, Jacob M. Fine, was born in Toronto, Canada in 1901. Graduated University of Toronto Medical School, but was denied an internship locally because he was Jewish. That was the reason he moved to Milwaukee where the rest is history. Dr. Fine passed away in 1993.
