     Being Judgmental
While not making any comment about what you say in your editorial, I do think it wise to avoid quoting the Christian Bible to make a point about Jewish behavior. "Judge not, lest ye be judged," is from the seventh chapter of the Book of Matthew. There is a long tradition of Jews being judgmental, for example, rabbinic courts. Remember that rabbis are Jewish laymen, albeit learned ones, not priests. Indeed, Jews are encouraged to bring serious matters of behavior, such as publicly profaning the Sabbath to the attention of Jewish courts, so that judgment may be rendered. Although it is true that there is a wide variation of opinion about any issue in the Jewish community, it is not the case that Jews must avoid being judgmental about matters of Jewish law. It is true that we must avoid Loshen Hara, also that any matters to be decided must be brought by responsible persons, with proper witnesses, and adequate evidence.
