Hail Megillah!
Michael, I've enjoyed many of the Megillahs, but for some reason the last two have been especially interesting for me. And I'm not yet finished with the latest one. Article after article gives fresh insights, some with almost humorous overtones--like Christine Jennings down in Sonia's winter state getting into much deserved hot water for anti-semitic remarks. And Lieberman's support in Conn. dropping because of his jingoism. The stories from Europe are quite interesting, and then there's the article about the New York Times in 1944 burying on page 4 the article about the allegedly still not discovered holocaust. This brings to my mind our guide at Auschwicz, who had done that work for 17 years if I remember right, saying how hard it was but that she felt compelled to do her part in getting the truth out. Sonia, you missed her because that was the day you journeyed to Pilz, but I'm sure you remember her, Alex. She was quite dismissive of protestations from various governments that they did not know what was happening. "They knew," she declared, her eyes flashing. "The Swiss inspectors in particular," she said, "pretended that the Nazi efforts to hide the truth were working, but they knew...all the governments knew, but looked the other way..." I've been especially furious lately for other important news reports being hidden on page 4 or even deeper. Like the dishonest, murderous, inhumane practices of the Bushy government. Amazing how papers tend to put fluffy or noncontroversial junk on page 1, and bury the issues that really affect the nation and the world. Enough from me. To all I say: "Read Megillah. It's wonderful." Steve
