Disappearing Yiddish
Hi there, Just to tell you I love your site. I’m a 46 year old South African Jewish woman whose late grandparents emigrated from Russia to South Africa and therefore spoke Yiddish fluently. My late parents also spoke what they had picked up from their parents, and I in turn have passed down what I remember to my teenage daughter. I love the language, as it is so colourful and expressive and am certainly going to learn a lot more from your site. What is so unfortunate is that my generation know a biseleh Yiddish (only the odd word slipped in here and there) and it is a dying language in South Africa. Kind regards Gail Cohen
